The senior citizens can now breathe a sigh of relief! Their health care problems have finally been realized by Chief Minister Sheila Dixit. She has introduced the "citizen plus card" for the people more than 55 years of age. The citizen plus card will be providing health care services for the seniors at the Max Super Speciality hospital.

The Citizen plus card

Senior citizens holding the Citizen plus card will be able to avail specialized range of broad medical facilities and other amenities at the Max Super Speciality hospital. The card that will be issued free of cost can be kept without submitting any membership fee.

The estimated figures given by the Union Health Ministry show that the approximate number of people who will be recorded in the age group of 60 plus may be touching nearly 100 million by 2013 and the number will rise to about 198 million in the year 2030.

Agonies of medical treatment

At this ripe age people will definitely require medical consultation and medical facilities. Generally, the cost of medical treatment is exorbitant and it can take a toll on the pocket of the elderly. By 2025, nearly 12% of the total population will be the older generation and about 10% will be incapacitated and will need the maximum care as they may fall in the bed ridden category. The citizen card will definitely turn out to be a boon.

The hospital confirmed that the citizen plus card will allow the patients “to avail benefits on all-preventive health check-ups, diagnostic, ambulance and out-patient department services, medicines and room rents resulting in major savings.”

Neeraj Mishra, Vice President (Operations) at the hospital gave his statement, "Senior people living in independent households has increased by many folds and they need frequent check-ups and diagnosis. Keeping this in mind, we have introduced the 'Citizen Plus Card' to ensure that senior citizens are minimally dependent on others in accessing prompt and quality medical attention.”

Maybe now the “fear bug” in the minds of the senior citizens regarding medical treatment can be put to rest.
